Limehouse Mass, released in early 2025, was recorded with the Happenstance Singers, directed by Matthew Swann. It features a short selection of choral and organ music by J A Monteiro, with two motets and an organ voluntary alongside the Mass setting which gives the album its name. ‘Limehouse Mass’ is a setting written for the Church of Our Lady Immaculate & St Frederick, London. ‘Ave Maria’ is a motet composed for the Choir of St Hugh’s College, Oxford. The final track is a voluntary on the Easter hymn ‘Ye Choirs of New Jerusalem', recorded by James Gough (Assistant Organist at Southwark Cathedral).

Joe Monteiro is a composer and arranger of choral and instrumental music. He is Director of Music at the Church of Our Lady Immaculate & St Frederick, London. He graduated from the University of Oxford, where he was organ scholar at St Hugh’s College.
Choral works include motets, Mass and psalm settings, and arrangements of hymns and carols. Instrumental works include music for organ, piano and chamber ensembles. His sacred music has been performed in churches across London. ‘Ye Choirs of New Jerusalem’ was performed at Southwark Cathedral in 2024 by James Gough, who subsequently recorded the work.
Joe signed with Ulysses Arts in 2024, with a first album, Limehouse Mass, released in early 2025. A second album of choral recordings is scheduled for 2026.
